Hard Questions to Ask Yourself (part 2)

If you have not read the blog prior to this one, I would encourage you to read it! This is part 2 in a series of blogs about questions that have been asked of me that challenged me to really look inwardly at my Christian walk. My goal is not to scare anyone away from being Christian, but rather to encourage you to more faithfulness to God. The second question I want to discuss in this series is one that you may have heard before, but never really looked at in much detail:

“If Jesus returned and the world as we know it ended tomorrow, would you be prepared?”

This question is one that I have heard multiple times over the past few years, but there was one time in particular that it really struck me. The question was asked at a time when I was unbelievably busy with school work, in the middle of looking for a job to go to after graduation, trying to figure out some financial struggles, wrestling with a newborn baby everyday, writing a sermon, preparing a Bible class, and a load of other things that seemed important. This was an unbelievably chaotic and stressful week for me. Then I heard this question in a sermon and it really hit me hard.

“If Jesus returned and the world as we know it ended tomorrow, would you be prepared?”

I had never really considered the consequences of the world ending until that moment. So a few thoughts filled my head: Who would finish my homework for me? How would I find a job for after school? How were the bills going to get paid? Who would take care of my family? Who would step up and preach and teach for me that week if Jesus returned and the world ended? And thats when it slapped me in the face. None of that would matter anymore if the world ended. I had become so caught up in the everyday battles of family, money, stress, school, and a whole slough of responsibilities that I had completely forgotten that none of that was really relevant to my purpose on this earth.

Sometimes we forget that our lives are so much more than this weeks to-do list. Our lives should be centered around serving God, and waiting for Jesus’ return (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10). I want to ask you again, “If Jesus returned and the world as we know it ended tomorrow, would you be prepared?” I beg you to not let this question go without consideration. If the world ended right here in the middle of you reading this sentence………(seriously…stop and think about it)……….would you be ready for that? Is your life right with God? Are you living as a Christian should be? Are you still putting off changing your life? Are you still waiting for “the right time” to get right with God? When you look at your life, are you okay with the world ending right now? Because a Christian should be.

“If Jesus returned and the world as we know it ended tomorrow, would you be prepared?”

I hope this question challenges you to consider if the world ended right now, would you have your ducks in a row? And I don’t mean your bills, job, and other obligations. I mean your obligations to God. Are you prepared for the day “when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-8). Are you prepared for that day? It could happen right now…… (literally). So I want to encourage you to take this question to heart and prepare for that day.

Remember that I love you, and God loves you.
