Leaving Notes

This week I traveled to a church in Hydro, OK. They housed me in a local hotel just outside of town. I decided to do something that I hadn’t done before. That night, I took the notepad that was on the desk in the room, and I left a note that said, “Jesus loves you, and His people love you! Come see us at the Hydro church of Christ.”

The next morning, I got up and left the room and went about my day as normal. I wasn’t sure if anyone would even see the note, but I left it anyways. To my surprise, when I got back to the hotel later that day, I found a note written back to me from the cleaning lady. It read, “Thank you so much for your note! I needed to hear this today. I hope you’re enjoying your stay.” I was amazed that this person was so encouraged by something as simple as a note.

I have no idea who this person was, what their story was, or where they may end up. They may never set foot into the Hydro church of Christ. They may never open a Bible. They may never become a Christian. But that day, that person knew that God loved them, and the church loved them.

We may not feel like we can contribute much to change the world. We may not feel like we can teach someone the gospel. We may not ever conduct a Bible study with someone or baptize someone. But surely you could leave someone a simple note.

My prayer this week has been that whoever found that note will visit the Hydro church of Christ and be shown the love of Jesus, and hopefully become a Christian. Perhaps God will orchestrate an opportunity for this lady to hear the gospel and be baptized.

This week, look for an opportunity to leave a small reminder with someone. You don’t have to do anything crazy or over the top, but just enough to get them thinking about God. Who knows… perhaps it could lead to someone becoming a Christian.
